This is the poster to the exhibition about Richard J. Daley (1902-76), Mayor of Chicago, who handled violently the protests during the Democratic National Convention in the year 1968.
In the preword of the small exhibition catalogue of the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati the fact has been described that and how the participating artists answered: "But occasionally does the artist's work reflect the political and social turbulence of the times." Robert Motherwell began to sign "a petition agreeing to boycott the city" of Chicago. Claes Oldenburg "cancelled his exhibition planned to take place at the Richard Feigen Gallery in November", supported by the director of the gallery himself: "We want to make known where the creative and thinking people of the world stand vis-à-vis the Chicago politicial system."
