To the competition:
"Stefan P. Munsing organized the major 'German Art Competition 1949' that is to say, the Blevins Davis Awards, which were named after his American sponser." Blevins Davis (1903 USA - Osceola / Missouri - 1971) was playwriter and theatrical producer. "Artists between eighteen and forty years old could submit paintings, watercolors, or works on paper. There were ten prizes in total, ranging in value from $ 100 to $ 1000".
To the result:
"Nevertheless, the jury had infact concluded that 'the more talented participants of the contest are more and more inclined to follow the abstract trend of the arts. The soft, undetermined, and pictorial form has lost ground considerably'." (Lauterbach 2015, p.222 f.)
Munsing "designed many exhibition posters and catalogues which modern layout attracted much attention" (Lauterbach, 2015, S.203).
Simple and fine poster design, important for the post-war period, progressiv and perhaps with influence to the first documenta poster !
