"German Poster art is at present still suffering from the destructive political and economic consequences of the complete collapse in 1945 (...) Finally, the still very serious shortage of paper necessarily forces artists and their clients to keep within certain size limits prescribed by the occupying powers, and this is especially prejudicial to large size posters. At the same time, purely economic considerations compel the restriction to a very limited number of colours, in order to hasten production and reduce costs." (E.Hölscher in: Allner '48-49, p.84)
