About the motive of the poster:
"By the mid- 1980s, lengthy droughts in Sudan, Ethiopia, and Somalia were followed by severe famines. The title of the poster is a reference to the rain dance rituals of certain Native North American tribes. This collaboration, largely the work of Keith Haring, was created for the UNICEF-run Africa Emergency Relief Fund."
(Döring 2011, p. 143)
About the design of the poster:
"Lichtenstein supplied one of his landscapes for the poster, initiated by Haring, and Warhol provided the umbrellas, Basquiat a black figure with a poem, and Yoko Ono the footprints."
