"The Imagery of Chess was an exhibition organized by regular chess opponents Julien Levy, Max Ernst and Marcel Duchamp at Levy's New York gallery in 1944.  It was the culmination of the indisputable connection between chess and avant-garde art. Duchamp designed the brochure, Dorothea Tanning documented the exhibition, and thirty-two artists were invited to contribute works. (...)
Max Ernst developed a complete geometry that caught Duchamp's fancy: he featured the forms in the exhibition brochure and was photographed playing with the set on several occasions."  (Anglès 2016, p.98)
