Two congresses were hosted by the Pan-African Cultural Society 1956 in Paris and 1959 in Rom. The motif was the value of the African culture. The first Black Cultural Festival was hosted 1966 in Dakar, Senegal, under President Léopold Sédar Senghor. Artistic director was Alioune Diop, assisted by Aimé Césaire, Jean Gabus, Engelbert Mveng. Participating artists were Duke Ellington, Arthur Mitchell, Alvin Ailey, Mestre Pastinha, Marion Williams, Clementina de Jesus etc. Early example for the identity of so-called Black Culture in Africa.
The second festival should take place 1977 in Lagos / Nigeria (compare order no. 22946).
